I hope you are enjoying Exploring the Laureates as much as I am. But I’ve hit a bump. You see, I am feeling a bit guilty about not taking more time to explore these beautiful novels that nobody else talks about. (I’m reading Early Autumn right now - it’s glorious.) So, I want to propose something to you. I would like to move to a two-week version of the newsletter.
The first week will offer the basics, crazy notes, plot summary, historical context, and a link to the Internet Archive or Project Gutenberg version of the novel for you to read.
After writing four weeks of the student and teacher stuff, I felt that both teachers and students could benefit from any of the ideas I offered. So, I will change that section to an academic tip section. Which means that the second week will provide academic tips as well as my thoughts on the novel.
This will lengthen the time it takes to get through the exploration of these works of art, but the extra time might also provide a richer experience for all of us. As I move forward, I’m considering community chats and study guides for the novels. But those take time. (During research for One of Ours, I found forty articles that would benefit students and teachers. How cool would it be to add a section on scholarship?)
I’ve posted a poll at the bottom of the newsletter because I would like to know what you think. The poll lives for three days so that I have time to adjust my newsletter for next week. Either way, next week we’ll explore Willa Cather’s One of Ours. I’ve included the link to the readable copy of Project Gutenberg’s novel.
Project Gutenberg - One of Ours
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my poll!
Well, I guess that poll tells the tale! I'm beginning to see that less is more as far as frequency, but more is truly more as far as depth of content. Good to know.
